D6 Generation
Listened to D6 Generation Episode 9 talking exclusively about the 5th edition release, I really think this will be a cool edition of the game. The guys who host the show, Raef, Craig and Russ Wakelin are generally "we hate GW, Privateer Press PWNS!!!" but they do an almost complete 180° on this one and along with Yakface from dakka review a lot of the new mechanics. Give it a listen: http://www.thed6generation.com

Re: D6 Generation
well, it looks like 5th is going back a lot to rules from 2nd ed, 2nd ed was fun as hell to play and it made the game a lot more tactical than it is now and much more involved, the current 40k rules are a joke that a 4 year old could master at a glance.
Never argue with an idiot, they'll bring you down to their level and beat you with

You know I was reading up on some of the changes, and they actually do not sound too bad. Of course there are at least 2 new rules that were taken from FOW, but hey, whatever works. Might get back into Warhammer. I especially like that vehicles are harder to destroy now, and that assaulting forces can't lock other forces after a successful assault.

Not mind you I haven't taken the time to read the leak i found a few weeks ago, but in the podcasts I've listened to about 5th edition and from what I have read i haven't heard anything about no longer locking in assault. What I have heard is that assaults will be more decisive because of the new casualty removal, clumping and combat resolution (wound difference is negative modifyer when testing against leadership).
so my squad of 10 IG takes 8 wounds and your space marines take 4, you win combat by 4 wounds. I now am testing at Ld-4 and will end up running.
Meaning that a prolonged assault will be more of the rarity instead of the rule.

Re: D6 Generation
Well Joel is giving out an 'Official Primer' about the new rules. It explains some of the new rules and then it says how they benefit each army. It clearly states there that no longer can you assault, win, and then go into another assault with your consolidation move...thus destroying multiple enemy units in 1 turn. Now if you win an assault you cannot go any neary than 1 inch to an enemy unit.
Rules taken from FOW:
1. You have to assign wounds to each man in a unit individually, this prevents you from saving special minis. For example 5 man squad includes 1 missle launcher...it gets hit for 5 wounds, you have to assign all those hits to individuals including the missle launcher guy, and he has to make a save. Thus you cannot assign multiple wounds to an individual figure until all the figures in the group has 1 wound.
2. When assaulted tanks use the rear armor for protection. In FOW, you use the top armor. This shows in assault tanks use the weakest armor (usually).

I've suggested to Israel (cuz I know Joel would have a heart attack) to consider a Midnight Sale where people show up (later) and are able to play using the new rules and purchase their books at midnight. Not sure what his plans are for it, it would be a late night at the store, but no later than the RPG all-nighters they pull sometimes...we'll see.

Cool idea. Although it's going to be weird with no one knowing the rules yet. Unless someone gets their hands on a bootleg copy of the rules.
Re: D6 Generation
Iarael's got a copy of the book, he could himself or have someone type out the rules changes to a referece sheet similar to Joel's 'Official' ones. and keep a pair of them on the tables.
