2500 pt games

Post by Hurricane on Sat Oct 11, 2008 11:00 pm

Luis and I did 2500 pt each side with only 1 company. It was interesting to have all those point available for a battle but the draw back was that we still played on a 6x4 foot table. We actually played 2 games. Luis played with and Armoured Battalion and I played with my German FJ's. The first gam we played was Roadblock. I did a little ambushcade, which was ineffective, on him and then had to cross the field to take the objectives. It didnt go very well for me. He pretty much wiped out every thing I had on the board by turn 3 and I never rolled any reinforcements on. So, my StuG's never made it on and my infantry got caught in the open. So we called that one a win for Luis and played again. This time we played Hold the Line. It didnt go to well for Luis, I took out 4 of his 8 Battalions and 2 of the 4 left were below 50%. I had only lost a Tiger and 1 Stug and most of one Infantry platoon. The major drawback to this time of game is that the board wasnt nearly big enough. Not much tactics when there is no room to maneuver. It basically like going full steam a head and running into a brick wall. It was fun but If I ever play that many points again, it will be on a bigger board.

We'll have to use my 8X5 board.

Road block is rough for the infantry army. I know just like you Erik after having played both sides of the equation.

The defender, or I should say the army on the roadway, can sit back and gets automatic reinforcements every turn.

If there's not enough cover between the objectives and the infantry army, they're basically boned.

I'm not surprised. It's a fun scenario, but much better suited to either 2 Mobile armies facing each other or an infantry army defending. It's not like infantry units never used roads. Especially at night.

Yeah, Roadblock is the one mission I actually have yet to see on a tournament listing (most tournys tell you what missions will be played).

It's a tough one for sure and infantry get stuck pretty quick. It's also tough because usually that platoon you leave in ambuscade usually gets popped off quite early on (unless it's a tank platoon, but even then it's tough).

Those man packed AT gun teams are great for the ambuscade, especially if they're veterans and in cover, especially buildings. .

You unload on some light armour or some half tracks , and then they only hit you on 5's or 6's at long range.

Roadblock i stough on the Ambusher, i thought that my guys were toast, but then i saw that he only gets to shoot ONCE at ONE platoon an dall his stuff starts in the open, so it went pretty bad for him, 28 tanks catching infantry in the open aint a pretty sight !!

The scond one was the classic try to budge veteran german infantry out of their holes....TOUGH !!, the size of the table and 2500 points didnt help as all my stuff was egting in the way of each other and couldnt really manuever or shoot much, i was loosing tanks left and right, the smoke markers stretched from one side of the table to the other !

I love playing big games, gives me a chance to field the true might of the russian army. Next time we play we gotta use a bigger table , o rplay at Joels with 2 tables together and field like 6000 points per side !
