2 different lists i'm looking at I need help deciding on one please.

Post by Warbird on Fri Nov 26, 2010 1:06 pm

I'm looking to start a new army I sorta narrowed it down between a few lists. I want to do something with both tanks and infantry this is what I came up with I have never played Germans or Soviets so if there is something totally wrong or I'm missing something let me know.

The Germans
Granadierkompanie from fortress Europe

Grenadier HQ +Panzershrek AT 65pts
2x Grenadier Platoon 3 squads + Panserfaust cmd 330pts

Mortar Platoon 2 squads 12cm mortars 215pts
Grenadier Pioneer Platoon 2 squads +RSO tractor supply wagon, Panzerfaust CMD team 190pts

Panzer Platoon 3 stuG G 285pts
Tank Hunder Platoon 2 Jagdpanther 470pts
Rocket Launcher Battery 3 15 cm NW31 rocket launcher 125pts
Total 1750pts

Russians Peredovoye Otryad PDF
http://www.flamesofwar.com/Portals/0/Documents/Briefings/Peredovoye-Otryad.pdf

Batallion HQ 1 CinC Rifle 1 2iC T-34/85 obr 1943 90pts
Combat Platoons
Motostrelkovy Company 3 Motor Rifle Platoons 410pts
Tankovy Company 8 T-34/85 540pts
Support
Spetsnaz Platoon 1 Spetnaz Squads 110pts
Guards Heavy Assault Gun Company 3 ISU-152 370pts
Guards Rocket Mortar Batalion 2 sections of Katyushas + Additional Crew 155
Anti-Aircraft Company 1 section of 37mm obr 1939 + Trucks 70pts
Total 1750

The Idea with this one is to use the forward detachment special rules from the PDF. Have the Spetsnaz platoon make its 16in move along with the Tankovy company and have the Motostrelkovy riding the tanks. That puts well over half my army out 16in before the game begins. This looks really fun to me because currently I'm playing Paratroopers where I sit and let the enemy come to me. This will be a nice change of pace.

My last idea seems like it could get old quickly but just wanted to see what ya think I just want to get away from all infantry

HQ 2 StuG G +Bergepanther recovery Vehicle 205pts

Combat Platoons
5x StuG G 475pts
4x StuG G 380pts
3x Panthers 560pts

Weapons Platoons
Motorised Scout Platoon 2 Scout Squads 120pts

Total 1740

Hey Rob. Those 3 lists are nice. The strongest of them is most likely the Russian list. It has most of the elements of a balanced list sans smoke, which Russians rarely get so that's a wash... 6 platoons, tanks, infantry, anti infantry, recon, .... very nice all around. The last German list would be easy to put together, but I think you'll find it frustrating with all of the elite infantry running around. You'll find success against other tank companies until you run into a similar list. The German infantry list is ok. It has nice anti tank options , but other lists can do the same thing better with neat rules to boot. So if those three were your options I would take the Russian list. It can hands down beat the other two lists assuming both generals are of equal skill.

Cesar, would you happen to have any suggestions for where to look for a strong German list? I don't know a ton about them but I'm leading toward starting an axis army so I will have both sides. That new D-day book looks promising for Germans.

It really depends on what you want to accomplish, other than win games. Most armies are going to be the same unit wise with uncommon exceptions. For example: the new Stalins Europe book has a pazenrgrenadier company that can buy fortifications as part of their army like the sturm division. Main difference is they have access to newer technology. They also have excellent anti infantry rules aka "street brawler." That's just one example. The reason I enjoy this game so much is that no two armies are ever alike.

Ya I kinda realized that was a really open ended question. What i'm looking for is infantry with tank support. Thats why the Russian list is so appealing. I want to play a list where I am able to move across the table. As you may remember with my Para's I had to dig in every time so I'm looking for a new army with a different play style where I can get out and move. Panzergrenadiers or some other mobile force may be the way to go to fit that play style. Maybe I just answered my own question.

Ohh the decisions you have to make when playing with little men. Smile

When will you be around sunshine next Rob? There are many possibilities for what you want. If you want a small force of infantry with tanks , try SS. It's may be too small for what you want though.

My last day of classes are Friday. So I may stop by Thursday if not over the weekend. I'm dying for a game.
