Another thing. If units in vehicles are unaffected by shadows of the warp and psychic hoods, how does that figure with a dreadnought librarian?

Yep, now though; if a Libby in a rhino is immune to nid psychic defense? Is he immune to runes and psychic hoods?

Power gamers of the world can start crying ..... NOW! Doom was the right move and I'm sad to say it should never have come into question. I wanna kick the shit out of the asshole that even thought of something so ridiculous; and, I'm upset at the 40K community for even accepting it. Other than that, mawlock was the right move as it's supported in RAW... as I said it was. Nids havae a nice codex that should last for a long time. I don't think the nerf bat hit them too hard.

Immune to psychic hoods, apparently- but not runes of warding.

Nothing is immune to Runes of Warding, the Eldar have been working on their Cheese for tens of thousands of years, no mere GW FAQ is gonna affect them !

In the blood angels FAQ (unless I looked over it) Nothing stops their psychic hoods from affecting units in a vehicle. But in the nid FAQ it does clearly state Shadows doesn't work. Good on the Doom, gay on the Mawloc. I am pleased with both FAQS!

Then you can have gaunts with stacking furious charge and counter-attack, and other such nonsense. Has to be logically consistent.

Well. Runic Weapon, Psychic Hood, and Shadows in the Warp do not follow the same rules.

Runic Weapon - Cancels powers within 24' on a 4+
Psychic Hood- LD roll-off in attempt to cancel psychic powers within 24'
Shadows in the Warp- Causes psykers to add an extra d6 to their test when within 12' of a model with this power.

All VERY different in rules. Tyranids were able to stack reserve rolls when the book came out. IG could too, until they got their FAQ. But because IG could no longer stack reserve rolls didn't mean Tyranids couldn't (atleast, until this FAQ came out)

They do, josh, all those pyschic defenses work off the same rules with the same mechanic (within x").

"Declare that you'll use the psychic hood after an enemy model within 24" of the Librarian passes a Psychic test"

"Any enemy Psyker that takes a psychic test within 12" of a Tyranid with Shadow in the Warp..."

The FAQ answers how the mechanic works in conjunction with vehicle rules.

I'd also like to post this, from another dude:

Psychic hoods on transported models was a question well before the Tyranid faq even came up. As such we now have precedent that such abilities do not work, and thus something that was unknown before is now answered. This hasn't changed the rules, its just clarified how they function. Ergo, the tyranid faq provides precedent on how gear targeting models in transports work when there was none previously.

I don't think GW would abandon tanks like that. They only stand to profit from having a more mechanized game. Besides, for every infantry squad you have, you'll typically have a vehicle for it anyway.
