Word to the wise: ALWAYS play with 4 heroes. If one of you is a DM the other two should control 2 heroes each. Even with worse stats on the monsters it's easy for a DM to overwhelm 2 heroes. Even on the very first map there are enough corners and LOS blocking objects to easily spawn hordes. Make sure you read the FAQ if things seem broken... they usually are and have been fixed. Oh and in the expansions some monsters changed. Skeletons go from crap to fantastic with the addition of pierce.

Yes a core to the game is line of sight and proper hero placement. The dungeon master spawns monsters in the dungeons out of line of sight. If you don't properly have your heroes deployed, it can leave an opening for something big and nasty to spawn right on top of you practically to munch on your face. A full 4 hero party is idea as Kingdom says.

If you don't got enough players, just let a person play with an extra hero.

Campaign play is a bit more fair for everyone because you don't really lose the game till the end of the campaign when you determine who wins through a final battle. You can fail a dungeon, but you just leave and can go to another one or continue your adventures. Point of the campaign is largely you travel the world and build up characters with the DM and the players earning experience to purchase upgrades. Once you reach a specific point of experience, the game goes to a final confrontation in the uber lords giant dungeon.

Thanks for all the tips guys. Are the monsters allready set, or can you make some of your own ? I wanna make a Monster spawned from the Unholly union of a Storm Giant and a Female Dark Elf.

The monsters are set. Basically a scenario is laid out in the book with preset spawns. The DM then has a deck of cards that he draws from that he can then use to spawn more monsters of various types that aren't part of the original scenario.

Every monster comes with miniatures (games has TONS of minis) and cards with differen sides having different stats/abilities depending how many heros are playing the game.

You can easily create your own scenarios though, as they do have on the official site tools for creating from what I remember. There is also a ruleset you can download to let players create their own heroes if you permit it.

You can check out the basic rulebook to read before buying here: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/descent/descentrules.pdf

You can get all the files for Descent here: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite_sec.asp?eidm=5&esem=4

Character creator at bottom and link to the scenario creator. Players also use the creator to build and submit their quests to the site, so theres tons of fan made quests hosted on there as well.

If you want a good challenge after getting your feet wet, try the Quest Compendium book Fantasy Flight released. It's got a bunch of new scenarios that are totally wicked.

Never played but from what I remember it's a competitive game between 2 players in a dungeon, while Descent is more in line with a roleplaying game dungeon run without the complex rules and roleplaying.

Dungeon Twister is similar to the old classic Dungeonquest which is getting a reprint, but that is for 4 players versus.
