Re: Clan Solskritt
Thanks for the comments guys! Here's a fluff piece I wrote up a while back. Enjoy!
Lieutenant Wilhelm grunted as he trudged through the wet, sticky mud.His boots were filled with water and he heard a squishing noise every time he took a step. His uniform was soaked and he felt miserable. The dark forest that surrounded him only dampened his spirits even more. he and his small patrol of fifteen militiamen and ten halberdiers had been patrolling the roads between Sieghof and Wenburg for several days now. He wanted to get out of this dark forest as soon as possible.
Last night he had heard something scurrying near his tent and this morning he had found a sentry that had been killed and it looked like something had eaten most of his flesh and entrails. He had been shocked and disgusted by this ghastly scene. He had also noticed what looked like the tracks of some large rat near the soldier's corpse that lead into the forest. He noticed what looked like two red eyes looking at him from a bush but as he began to move towards it they seemed to dissapear. He told two of his men to bury the sentry and made his way back to camp.
"Break camp,we will be moving out in twenty minutes!" he shouted to his men. He wanted to get back to Sieghof as soon as possible to report what he had seen to his superior, Captain Heinrich.Wilhelm quickly ate his lunch of salted meat and a tough loaf of bread and washed it down with some ale. He made his way to the road and shouted to his men to quickly get on the road.By tommorow he would be back in town enjoying fine dwarven stout at the green dragon tavern.
Warlord Solskritt looked upon one of his foolish minions. This idiot had almost given away his warband's position when he had feasted on one of the human sentries and now he would have to set an example to the rest of his underlings. He walked over to where the fearful minion was being held by two of his elite guards. He turned to face his assembled force.
"Let this be an example of what happens to all who would dare to disobey a direct order!" he shouted. He turned around to see that his minion was begging for mercy. He quickly reached out his arm and drove his hand into the fool's chest and ripped out his still beating heart. He held it in front of the panicked underling who still had a few seconds of life left. He threw the heart at his pet giant rats who quickly devoured it. His other minions gasped and squirted the musk of fear.
"Now lets go hunt some man-things!" he chittered to his troops. His troops immediately began to get ready to move out
The sun was almost gone when Wilhelm told his men to make camp.He sat down to enjoy a dinner of not surprising, more salted meat and tough bread. He finished his dinner and began to write in his diary about his experiences that day. He put his diary away and quickly fell asleep. He dreamt of twisted beastmen and malicious eyes looking at him from the concealment of dark trees.
Wilhelm was abruptly awoken when he heard the sound of swords clashing and men screaming. He quickly grabbed his sword and put on his boots and stepped out of his tent. What he saw was pure chaos.Tents were blazing and his men were fighting what looked like strange hybrids between rats and men. They were a head shorter than men, had the head of a rat and were covered in fur. They walked upright and had long tails. They brandished crude spears and blades. He noticed a rat-man that was about a foot taller than his comrades and whose left eye was covered by a leather eye patch. He wore heavy armor and wielded a large war-pick.At once he knew that this must be the leader of the vile rat-men.
Wilhelm began to fight his way to the rat-mens' leader. he impaled one rat-man on his blade and just barely ducked a blow from another. He kicked the creature in the groin and cleaved its head off. Black blood landed all over his uniform as he severed another rat-man's leg. It was then that he saw the enemy leader walking towards him. He charged the vile creature and aimed a blow at it but the rat-man moved out of the way and quickly counterstriked. A surge of pain shot through Wilhelm's body as he saw the wound on his leg that the rat-man's counterstrike had inflicted. He tried to stab the creature in the abdomen but it was futile. The rat-man stabbed Wilhelm in his stomach and Wilhelm fell on his back. The last thing Wilhelm saw before darkness overcame him was his soldiers being massacred by the rat-men and the hideous one-eyed face of their leader about to deliver his doom.
