Bloodletter

Post by Diosamblet on Tue Jun 17, 2008 8:41 pm

Test miniature for my Bloodletter unit. Base is Mechrite Red (Foundation), drybrush blood red, then blood red and skull white. Glazed with red, brown and purple ink mixed with acryllic medium.

The Mechrite Red is not a very warm red, which makes the model different from other bloodletters. Even so, I'm not completely satisfied... something about the whole paint scheme doesn't convince me. What do you guys think?

Have you ever comtemplated entering a Golden Daemon? You might fare well. Nicely done! How long did it take you to do that model? Same brush all the way through?

GD matt, that thing looks fucking awsone dude.

You know what a cool conversion would be ? have the Bloodletter champ holding his sword high with a human impaled on it, or a human/elf head impaled on it !

Woah guys, thanks for the compliments!

Sam, the model took very little time, maybe 2-3 hours, because it was pure drybrushing (except the sword). The trick is mixing acryllic medium with the inks for a final glaze to smoothen the drybrush: it makes the ink thick and it'll stay in the recesses and dry properly. It also gives the whole model a glossy finish, which I don't mind, but it can be removed with a coat of matte varnish.

Luis, I've always wanted to do something like that! Might have to try it for a Khorne herald!

Thanks for the advice...I've had issues with my ink in the past, but have stayed away from the acrylic because I don't like the shiny finish (prefer matte), but if you can just paint matte over it, then I might have to give it a go when I finally get around to painting my Phoenix Guard. The model looks great and I agree with Luis...should put a human head on the sword -- Elves banished the daemons back to the empyrian so they would be stuck on it's sword. Wink Rolling Eyes

Sam,
Instead of painting a matt finish on it you could try Testors dulcote. Spray is much easier than a brush. Only thing is i've heard that if the can's been sitting for a while it may come out chunky, just make sure you shake it really well.
You can find Dulcote @ most Michael's in the plastic model section or Thewarstore.com

oh, by the way, nice looking bloodletter Smile

Thanks...I have heard bad things about spray matte finish, as it can come out cloudy...so have strayed away from it for the most part...might try it on some "back rank models," though.

I'd keep away from the GW sprays in any case. Oh and Sam, I've only read you can use matte varnish to take away the gloss finish. It's something I still haven't tried personally, so don't get mad at me if it doesn't work properly Razz

I've tried it and it works you just have to be careful.

Keep a good distance between the matte spray and your miniatures. Like at least a good 18 inches. If you get too close, you get buildup, that's when the colors dull and things get cloudy. I learned this much to my dismay while working on some Iron Warriors.
