Dark Heresy Report
Heh. I finally played Dark Heresy with a couple of friends. I actually kinda forced them to play. They were quite bored during the beginning of Chargen, but as it went on they got excited, probably because of how detailed it is. Game only lasted about 2 hours, but it was fun. The system plays fairly smooth. No real complaints on it except that one of my friends was rolling horrendously.

Board game? Card game? Miniature game? I'd be interested depending on starting cost.

Traitor Guardsman FTW!!
And yeah, it's basically DND but in the 40k world. There is a group in Nashville that plays it at the same time as the Fantasy nights here. I mean, it looks about as fun as DND is, though I sometimes find that sort of thing hard to imagine.
"I'm a Space Marine!"
"Alright, so a platoon of Traitor Guardsmen burst through the door..."
"I fire my bolter. I need a 4 to hit (on a D20) and it's auto-death on the guardsmen."
"Ok... There's 4 guardsmen left... And they run away."
"Excellent, the Emperor protects."

Re: Dark Heresy Report
that's funny!
i don't *think* a space marine is an allowed character type because they would be all tied up in protecting the imperium and such, also as there are so few of them in comparison to the number of "average" humans in the 40k universe.

Yeah, I assumed as much, but I still think it'd be funny if one player in a party was a space marine.
I mean the game sounds like it could be real interesting, kinda gives me a necromunda feel but with pen and paper.

Re: Dark Heresy Report
As with any RPG the success of the game hinges on the ability of the game masters knowledge, control of play, adaptability, a mature set of players and most importantly the ability to tell a damn good story.
Re: Dark Heresy Report
Sorry about that. I should have explained that it was the 40K RPG right off the bat. BTW, I think there is going to be a supplement for creating Space Marines in the future, right now the closest thing you can create is a Sister of Battle. The basic premise of the game is that you are a group working for an inquisitor--rooting out heresy, cults, demons, and xenos in the Calixis sector. Characters available are: adepts, assassins, psychers, guardsman, tech-priests, scum, arbitrators, and sistas of battle. It uses a basic persentile systems to determine success/failure using stats very similar to the mini game.
I would make a big thing out of it, but my friend's live by Sample road in Broward--far as hell.
Not sure if we are playing again though. I would love to play this over here though. I could co-GM something, but I wouldn't want to GM all the time.

so, essentially I could play a snively guardsman who jumps at every little noise yet lives by pure luck? that would be awesome!

Re: Dark Heresy Report
I listened to an extensive review of the game on the D6 Generation podcast.
They were impressed by the scope and feel of the game and thought it was quite fun, although they found that the fact that there's a chart to roll off of on every little thing could be a little tedious.
I was thinking about buy the book cause of all the fluff in it.
Grombart, if you're hosting a game I'm in, I wouldn't mind a little change of pace from all the table top stuff.
Don't expect me to act much.. leave that to the D&D drama queens.
